Marine Company History
1928 Richard Collett (1) from his farm in Sutton, near Keighley began transporting his and other farmers milk to the dairy by horse and cart.
1933 Richard Collett (1) buys his first wagon and is employed by the MMB to collect milk (then in cans) from farms and deliver in to dairies
1939 he was running seven wagons.
1962 Richard Collett (2) moved in to a farm in Wainstalls near Halifax.
1964 the partnership between Richard Collett (1) and his son Richard (2) is formed creating the firm R.Collett & Son. Over the following years the milk transport fleet increased to 14 wagons and in early 70's expand into General & Heavy Haulage
1974 Collett abandon the milk transportation business
1975 R.Collett & Sons (Transport) Ltd was formed as a limited company. Over the coming years the five sons of Richard Collett (2) would join the company in different capacities; Richard Collett (3), David, Lincoln, Mark and Michael.
1985 due to growth, the Company obtains a two acre site in Keighley, this meant the company was operating out of two sites allowing for expansion of the Heavy Transport side of the business.
1998 moved both depots to a five acre site Victoria Terminal, Albert Road in Halifax, which also allows to provided Heavy Lifting and Warehousing facilities. Business increased particularly the transportation of Wind Turbines, and the 'Consulting' side of the business was born.
2000 Richard Collett (4), fourth generation joined the company.
2008 another strategically placed five acre depot was obtained at Goole where the Marine department was born and the Projects department expanded.
2010 the Company name was changed to Collett & Sons Limited in order to reflect the diverse nature of the company activities. The Company was positioned as 3 divisions, Transport & Projects, Marine, Consulting
At present the company employs over eighty people, and runs a fleet of over one hundred diverse vehicles and trailers providing them with the ability to accommodate all customer transport requirements. With a highly skilled support and operations team, using the latest transport software, their mission is to deliver professional transport solutions on a Worldwide basis.
